Our Farm
Our Commitment to Sustainable, Ethical, and Humane Farming
Sage Hills Farm is more than just a farm—it’s home to three generations. Nestled in the hills of Kamloops, our family is committed to leaving the world better for future generations.
At Sage Hills Farm, we believe in farming that is sustainable, ethical, and humane. We do not raise animals solely for rapid, high-output production at the cost of health and longevity. Instead, we prioritize heritage breeds and other naturally resilient livestock—animals with strong genetics, adaptability, and longevity. These animals grow at a healthier pace, thrive in outdoor environments, and live longer, more natural lives.
It takes significantly more time and care to raise animals this way. It takes even longer when you prioritize their well-being, allowing them to live outside in fresh air, sunshine, and on the land. Our prices and availability reflect that commitment.
We might not be able to compete with grocery store prices, but that’s not what we’re trying to do. We are committed to:
-
Raising animals humanely with respect and care.
-
Creating sustainable, locally-produced food in Kamloops.
-
Preserving heritage breeds and traditional livestock traits to ensure their survival for future generations.
If you care about where your food comes from and how the animals are treated, we’re the farm for you. If your main priority is finding the lowest price, our approach may not be the right fit. Our focus is on raising animals ethically, sustainably, and with care—not on maximizing profits.

Our Commitment to Heritage Breeds
At Sage Hills Farm, we believe in the value of heritage breeds—chickens that have been carefully nurtured over generations for their hardiness, productivity, and unique characteristics. We select our breeds based on what works best for our climate, environment, and the long-term health of our flock. With Kamloops' hot summers, it's essential to raise chickens that can thrive in the heat, so we choose breeds that are well-suited to these conditions.
Heritage breeds are not only resilient, but they also have a slower growth rate, allowing them to live longer, healthier lives. By raising these breeds, we support genetic diversity in livestock and help preserve these valuable birds for future generations. We’re not just farming for today—we’re farming with an eye on tomorrow.
Our heritage breed flock includes:
-
Plymouth Rocks
-
Ameraucanas
-
Australorps
-
Marans
-
Wyandottes
-
Welsummers
-
Orpingtons
-

-
Barnevelders
To add even more variety to our egg basket, we’ve also included select heritage mixes and other carefully chosen breeds that bring unique egg colours and diversity to our flock. These additions allow us to offer a wider range of rare and distinctive egg shades that go beyond what heritage breeds alone can provide.
